A classic English landscape garden with contemporary reinterpretation in Northumberland.

This Northumberland estate needed a landscape with a story strong enough to belong to both the house and the country around it. Stone became the natural starting point. It is there in the architecture, in the ruggedness of the wider landscape and in the deep antiquity of the region itself. The garden takes that material and gives it new purpose: shaping terraces, walls, routes and places to gather, while allowing something of the family’s own character to become part of the continuing story of the estate.

Across the masterplan, the landscape moves between the more ordered world immediately around the house and the rougher country beyond, working with difficult levels rather than disguising them. Stone gives those different spaces a common thread — sometimes formal, sometimes elemental — and a sense that the garden should feel more embedded in the place with every passing year.
